Carlo Rossi was born in the Piedmont region of Italy in 1872. At the age of 14, he began working in his father’s vineyard. After Carlo’s father died, he took over the business and eventually immigrated to the United States, where he started making wine in California. In 1934, he moved to Sonoma County and started Carlo Rossi Vineyards. He made his first sangria in 1940, and it quickly became popular. The wine was originally called “Carlo Rossi Sangria Wine”. In 1971, the name was changed to “Carlo Rossi Sangria”.
Carlo Rossi Sangria is made with a blend of red wine, orange juice, lemon juice, and sugar. The wine is aged in oak barrels for six months before being bottled.
