The Entity Administrator left. Now what?

This is the stuck state that feels like a lockout, because it is one. SAM.gov is built so a stranger cannot walk off with your entity. That protection is also why a new owner cannot just “reset the password” from a search result.

What that role actually is

The Entity Administrator can accept the terms, manage other users, and change the record. If they were the only user, and their Login.gov is gone, you are not in a normal forgot-password flow. You are proving you control the legal entity.

Where the official path lives

Start at FSD.gov — the Federal Service Desk — and open a ticket about administrator succession. GSA has published a recovery process that typically asks you to prove authority over the entity. In past years that has included a signed, often notarized letter on letterhead plus identity documents. The packet changes. Download whatever FSD lists today. Do not use a blog’s 2019 sample as the form.

What not to buy

Search ads sell “SAM.gov account recovery” the same way they sell registration. They cannot issue you a new Entity Administrator. At best they fill out the same FSD ticket. At worst they collect an EIN, a voided check, and a Login.gov code. Do not hand a stranger the keys you are trying to recover.

If you still have any user who can see the entity, have them add you before the last admin vanishes. That is cheaper than a notarized aftermath.

While you wait

Awards can stall if the record cannot be updated or renewed. Put the anniversary on a calendar anyway. If validation is the other problem, that is a name match, not an admin match.
